Caviar Emptor Wins Top PRSA Silver Anvil Award

NEW YORK, (June 4, 2004) – Caviar Emptor is a recipient of this year’s prestigious Silver Anvil Award, sponsored by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).  The Silver Anvil, which recognizes outstanding achievement in strategic public relations planning and implementation, was presented during the Silver Anvil Celebration Event held June 3 in New York City.  Caviar Emtpor received the award in the “Public Service: Associations/Nonprofit Organizations” category.

Caviar Emptor is a partnership of SeaWeb, Natural Resources Defense Council and the University of Miami’s Pew Institute for Ocean Science to protect and restore the dwindling populations of Caspian Sea sturgeon. The campaign, now in its third year, has called for listing beluga sturgeon as an endangered species in the United States and for a halt to the international trade in beluga caviar, while encouraging consumers to opt for alternatives, such as aquacultured caviars from trout, paddlefish and varieties of sturgeon found in the United States.

“The PRSA Silver Anvil awards are the highest watermark of success for any public relations practitioner,” said Kelly Womer, APR, chairperson, 2004 Silver Anvil Awards and senior counselor, Carmichael Lynch Spong.  “We congratulate Caviar Emptor for their public relations program that incorporated measurable and sound research, planning, execution and evaluation. This program contributes to the best practices of our industry.”

The Silver Anvil Awards has grown in scope and stature since its inception in 1947. Silver Anvils are now awarded to programs in 54 categories.  In the 57 years since the inception of the program, more than 1,000 organizations have received Silver Anvils for excellence in strategic public relations planning and implementation. The Public Relations Society of America (www.prsa.org), based in New York City, is the world's largest organization for public relations professionals helping to advance the profession and the professional.
